SEO World... Meet Bella

Bella is my (and my girlfriend Jackie's) 11 week old puppy that we decided to adopt a couple weeks back. Her original owners are farmers and therefore decided that they had way too many animals on board when Bella's litter was born.

Bella is half Chow Chow, a quarter German Sheppard, and a quarter Black Lab. She is mostly a golden brown color, but does have a few distinctive black and white spots.

For the most part, she has been a great puppy with very few "accidents". She's just now getting to the point where she knows her name, knows when she's in trouble, and knows to hide when I raise my voice. It's been quite the experience so far.

Here are a few pictures of my Bella... pay special attention to the last one where she kind of resembles the fox on the FireFox icon:

Just thought I'd share.

  • That could be the cutest puppy I have ever seen. Congrats!!

My fiance has a dog that is part chow and part collie - I have a little advice for you about the "chow" side of things:
    1) Don't tell the vet or the groomers that they are part chow when you make your appointment (most of them won't take them).

    2) Keep in mind that they are known for randomly snapping. You never quite know what is irritating them until they all of a sudden get mean. Her chow almost never does that, and has never ever hurt any of us (just their other dog). Just thought I'd warn you though.

Other than that, you should have a great time being the proud owner of such a beautiful pup. :)

  • Thanks for the heads up Pratt... you're not the first person who's warned me about the darker-side of the Chow breed. I'm hoping that the loving, friendly German Sheppard and Black Lab portions of Bella overcome the random meanness that the Chow breed imposes. I don't think that'll be a problem though.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Kind of ironic that you dog has a "dark side" don't you think??

We have a shit tzu (I know, spelling) dog that my wife snuck past me one day. It's pretty good with all the kids but I'll tell you the same thing I tell her; anytime you want the dog to go away, let me know. Nothing a gunny sack and the Illinois River won't take care of.

disclaimer: the above comment was made in jest. The author does not in any way condone or recommend throwing cute little puppies into the Illinois River.

  • She's adorable! Thanks for sharing... I have to live vicariously through other people's dogs since I can't have one where I live. Great job adopting, the world needs more adoptive parents and less Paris Hilton pure-bred wannabes!

  • Hey Rhea... my thoughts exactly. I'm not into the whole "my pet has to be a pure-bred" phenomenon that seems to have everybody scouring the earth for the perfect puppy and shelling hundreds if not thousands to buy it. If that's someone's ideal pet, than fine. However, there are more than plenty of worthwhile puppies / dogs in need of a good home that aren't getting adopted because one parent was "X-breed" and one was "Y-breed". That's just ridiculous. I've also been told (and have personally felt) that "muts" make the best dogs.

Mine and Jackie's qualifications for selecting Bella were pretty easy... the dog needed to have 4 legs, 2 eyes, 2 ears, be trainable, and be loving (which you can tell within the first minutes of meeting them.) Our goal is to mold her into a loving and loyal companion... not a show-dog competitor. The fact that she's as cute as she is... well that's just a plus.

    Thanks for the comments.
